Leaked Media Defender email reveal secret government project

From arstechnica.com - "Internal MediaDefender e-mails leaked on BitTorrent reveal that the peer-to-peer poisoning company was providing information to the government as part of a secret project. The e-mails also provide new insight into the company's MiiVi scandal."This is interesting news, particularly to those of us who actively use P2P networks. I, for one, use them almost daily, mostly for downloading large files - Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, or releases of the open source MMO, Planeshift. I also use it for downloading music (which is legal in Canada). I don't appreciate the network being poisoned by the RIAA and their partners. Nor do I support such tricks to lure unsuspecting users into being 'caught'. Granted, P2P can be used for many illegal things, but as I have mentioned, it is also very useful for the downloading of large, LEGAL files. And since music downloading is legal here in Canada, we Canadians don't particularly want to be punished for a law we're not breaking on someone else's behalf.Thankfully, we have common sense and IP filters to keep us out of their reach.
